Vintage Elvis Presley, “Tickle Me” 1965 American Musical Comedy Film Press Kit

“Tickle Me,” stars Elvis Presley, as a champion rodeo bull-rider and bronco-buster. Elvis, as one time rodeo standout Lonnie Beale, needs a job. So, his slick playboy character, heads to a dude ranch, that caters to wealthy and glamorous women. He sings, in a club and catches, the eye of the dude ranch’s owner. She hires, Lonnie and falls for him, as well.This is, the only Elvis film, released by Allied Artists Pictures. “Tickle Me,” saved the studio from collapse, and avoid bankruptcy. A song, from the film, Elvis Presley’s “Such an Easy Question,” went to # 1, on the easy listening charts. On a $1.5 Million budget, the film showed a $5 Million Profit. Presley, received a $600,000 salary, $150.000 expenses and 50% of the profit. In his 18th film, Presley’s, Lonnie Beale romances his way through this dude ranch musical. He’s disappointed,that the ranch is really just, a women’s fitness salon! It’s even, known as “Yogurt Gulch.” He, misses his original girlfriend, and between musical numbers, searches for a missing treasure, and rodeo runs.Elvis never disappoints. “Tickle Me,” has the King’s usual happy ending. In Sept. 1964, it offered an Elvis vs. The Beatles Contest. Elvis Presley and The Beatles, are the 20th Century’s two most successful and recognized artists on earth. Both, Muhammad Ali and Elvis Presley, are the 2 most loved and recognized figures on earth. Elvis, and Muhammad were very good friends. Presley, visited Ali at his training camp, just before the First Liston Fight. They ran, talked & enjoyed each other. Elvis, would often join Ali, at his pre-fight headquarters.   When, the 2 met, Elvis was already the ultimate superstar. He, had been “America’s Newest Sensation,” for more than 10 years. Don’t Be Cruel and Hound Dog Vintage Elvis Pinbacks

On July 2, 1956, Elvis Presley recorded, both “Don’t Be Cruel” in 28 takes and “Hound Dog” in 31 takes. His input was evident on both. Scotty Moore, Bill Black and D.J. Fontana backed him. Elvis played rhythm guitar and sang. The Jordanaires sang backup vocals . Although Otis Blackwell wrote the song, he gave Elvis co-writing credit and also 50% of the publishing rights. As the song was released on Elvis Presley’s publishing company Hill and Range.   This was the first, of many lucrative deals, Colonel Parker demanded.  Parker guaranteed one million sales, for Elvis recording a song. In return, Elvis Presley would receive co-writing credit and 50% of the publishing rights. This worked out great for everyone on “Don’t Be Cruel.” It sold 4 million copies in 1956, and 6 million, by 1961. Elvis sang the song, on all 3 Ed Sullivan Television performances. Twice in Sept. 1956, and again Jan. 1957.   “Don’t Be Cruel” was the “A” side song, of the dual hit single. “Hound Dog” was the “B” side. “Hound Dog” was written by Lieber and Stoller, who retained their publishing rights. “Jailhouse Rock” was Elvis Presley’s third film. Elvis played a released ex. con, who had served time, for an unfortunate manslaughter charge. A familiar Presley premise, offered him aspiring, to be a successful singer. He would overcome obstacles and fall in love, before the final credits read, “The End.” A great # 1 song “Jailhouse Rock,” had Elvis singing the song, in a great dance number, he choreographed himself.  Many consider, the “Jailhouse Rock” dance number, Elvis Presley’s greatest screen moments,  of his entire film career. 22″ x 28″ # 57 /533 lithograph poster M.G.M. 1957.

The Four Sex Symbols of 1956. 1.Elvis Presley, Rock and Roll Sex Symbol. “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Blue Suede Shoes” both # 1… His film and gold record “Love Me Tender” both released as well. Long Live The King. 2. James Dean, Movies Star Sex Symbol. He received Academy Award nominations for “East of Eden” and “Giant” posthumously. James Dean became a legend for his misunderstood teenager, in “Rebel Without A Cause.” His tragic premature death, in a car crash at just 24, immortalized his legend. 3. Don Murray, a Cowboy Sex Symbol, for his role as the cowboy who’s looking for rodeo gold, but ends up lassoing Marilyn Monroe’s heart in “Bus Stop” which brought him an Academy Award Nomination. 16 years later, to pay for his children’s college tuition, Don Murray was playing a governor who hates apes, in “Planet of the Apes.” 4.
